I’m James Lowe, an aspiring game developer, recently graduated from the Art Institute Online. I currently live in Elkhart, IN with my wife Mandy Wiswell. We’re expecting our first child in February 2008. I I’m looking for employment with game development companies pretty much anywhere they exist. I enjoy playing games, and have been a fan particularly of role playing games, like Dungeons & Dragons and D&D-based computer games, and strategy games such as Civilization IV and Rise of Nations.

My experience…

I’ve recently been working on a project with the Art Institutes to create an instructional game in Second Life. The course will be a full-credit online course, but instead of virtual classrooms and lectures, they will have an RPG to play and work through. Part of my work with the project will be to design how story and assignments are laid out along the nonlinear path of advancement through the game.

I’ve also worked on an independent film production filling in roles as an artist, webmaster, actor, and general volunteer. “The Dork of the Rings” premiered on 8/11/2006 at GenCon in Indianapolis, and has future screening dates listed here. It is currently available on DVD. In the film, I animated flying arrows in a battle scene, created a full exterior building in 3D, and textured and animated another structure. I also had a scene in the film as “The Internet Troll.”

My career goals…

I would love to be a part of the design team of a development house, but am also interested in game art. I have been building my skills over the last few years in 3D modeling, texturing, and basic art skills. My portfolio includes video and film, game projects, 3D renders, and 2D art. I will be adding to this portfolio as projects become ready for display.

What I’m playing…

Pokemon Diamond is a time-sucking beast of a fun game. My wife and I have played the series since Pokemon Red, which is the reason I bought my first Gameboy. As I write this, my wife is busy catching ‘em all behind me, and I woke up this morning thinking about Pokemon berries.
